The Client
Driscoll Children's Hospital (DCH), based in Corpus Christi, Texas is a 200-bed tertiary care referral center offering the most complex and comprehensive medical and surgical care for children. The hospital admits more than 6,500 children and carries out more than 6,000 surgeries per year, as well as handling more than 40,000 ER visits.

The Challenge
The hospital had an antiquated LAN and was suffering from bandwidth issues within its vast South Texas coverage. The distance between DCH sites proved to be a significant challenge, although communications within the main campus suffered as well. DCH required faster access for doctors, nurses and administrative staff to X-rays, patient records and prescriptions. To achieve these goals, DCH developed a three-year technology plan to support its expanding pediatric services.

The Solution
Within two months, Logicalis had deployed a completely upgraded LAN including Cisco routers and switches for infrastructure and the supporting Network Operating System. The LAN upgrade gives doctors and technicians speedier communications and increased reliability, which allows DCH facilities to send and share information easily and efficiently, enabling more timely diagnosis and allowing more patients to be attended to.

DCH's existing Web site was migrated from a legacy system. The move to a Microsoft solution helped to leverage the exchange mail server and a new Microsoft Windows operating system. The Web site also incorporated functionality for volunteering, donations, job searches, physician information, calendar of events and patient communications in both English and Spanish.
